Apple Mac Pro 2019

Apple has launched a refurbished version of its Mac Pro, a workstation built for performance. Modular, it adapts to different uses and provided you pay the price.

The Mac Pro is experiencing a kind of renewal. The previous cylindrical Mac Pro had not seen any evolution for several years. In December 2019, Apple released an entirely new Mac Pro. The Mac Pro is for professionals who need a powerful and flexible machine. It is ideal for applications with large computing needs, especially in video editing, image editing, 3D software, etc.

The Mac Pro is really intended to be personalized by the customer and Apple does not offer a standard configuration for this machine. In terms of prices, a Mac Pro equipped with the basic components costs € 6,499. A final option was added this week by the manufacturer: the possibility of equipping the machine with an 8 TB SSD for € 3,120.

External ports: The Mac Pro includes an I / O card installed in a PCI Express slot in half-length x4. This card has two USB 3 ports and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. According to Apple, the Mac Pro also has a headphone jack, but it is not visible in pictures of the machine. It is probably somewhere on the front of the case.

Additional components: Inside, the Mac Pro houses eight PCI Express expansion slots. Up to two MPX modules or four PCI Express cards can be installed. There are also three full-length PCI Express gen 3 slots (one x16 slot and two x8 slots) and a half-length PCI Express gen 3 x4 slot, but this is used by an Apple I / O card with two USB ports 3 and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Wireless: WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 are integrated.

Speed: According to Apple, the Mac Pro was "built for performance." It can handle 8K video editing, 3D applications, software development and other production-oriented tasks. On the Mac Pro page of Apple’s site, the benchmarks are only for the high-end 28-core model. According to the results of these benchmarks, the new Mac Pro is 3 times more efficient in transcoding ProRes than the previous 12-core Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro X. Apple also claims that the performance of Adobe Photoshop 2020, Autodesk Maya, Logic Pro X, MATLAB and Wolfram Mathematica are multiplied by 3. Popular Mechanics has published an article explaining the functioning of the cooling system of Mac Pro, which allows the computer to maintain a high level of performance.
The Apple Mac Pro is Intended For :

The Mac Pro is designed for demanding work environments, such as TV and audio recording studios, animated film production, and software developers. If you feel like you never have enough power, then the Mac Pro may be of interest to you. If you are more of a prosumer (producer + consumer) than a professional, that is to say a Mac expert who does not use high-end applications, the use of Mac Pro is exaggerated. You probably won't be able to take advantage of all the powerful capabilities of this machine. The iMac Pro offers a sufficient alternative.
